Rebekah Reviews: Labor Day

The best way I can sum up this movie is…weird. Not to mention, it’s unbelievably depressing.

The basic story is a deeply depressed woman, played by Kate Winslet, falls in love with an escaped convict, played by Josh Brolin, in one weekend.

Seriously, it’s just an unbelievable story. I think the goal was to make something along the lines of The Notebook, but the story is just too thin. At times, I wondered to myself…”is this really happening.” Could it have been that this woman was just so utterly depressed that she would just hook up with whatever guy crossed her path? Or did she make up the whole thing? Is the whole story just in her head?

Like I said, weird!

I also feel the need to warn you if you go see Labor Day…there is a very awkward pie scene that involves a child. Yeah…let that sit in your head for a bit. It kind of reminded me of the pottery scene in Ghost!!!

The acting is good, but that’s no help to a very thin plot.

I give 2 Xanaxes…because you will need a mood boost after you see it!
